After robots beat humans

If one day, a robot were to stand at the starting line. The starting gun fired, and it began to run, eventually overtaking the human. What is really worth paying attention to may not be "how fast robots run", but: what else can robots do when they begin to surpass human physical capabilities? In the past few years, the biggest breakthroughs in artificial intelligence have occurred in the digital world. AI have been able to understand language, generate content, write code, and analyze data. But most of them live on the screen. Robots are different. It needs to enter the real world, see the real environment, understand the space, control the body, and complete a specific task. And that's why,Body intelligence is becoming an important direction for AI to move from "digital intelligence" to "physical intelligence.

Start with "Run."

For robots to really enter the real world, the first level is actually movement. The seemingly simple walking and running of humans is a very complex engineering problem for robots. How does the body maintain balance? Where does the foot fall? What to do when encountering obstacles? How does the joint cooperate when the speed changes? At this stage, the robot company is constantly breaking through.
Boston Dynamics's Atlas has long been a proxy for robotic locomotion. The new generation of electric Atlas goes further from experimental platforms to real industrial applications.
China's Unitree is also rapidly advancing in this direction. Unitree H1 is a full-size humanoid robot, official data show that it has the ability to walk and run autonomously, and is equipped with 3D LiDAR and depth camera for spatial perception. G1 further emphasizes flexible joints, dexterous hands, and imitation learning and reinforcement learning capabilities. But "running" is just the beginning.

From "can run" to "can understand"

If a robot could only run, it would still be just a machine. True physical intelligence needs to answer another question: Can robots understand the world they see?
For example, humans say:
"Bring the cups on the table."
Human beings hardly need to think to understand this sentence.
But the robot must complete a series of complex tasks:
Identify the "cup";
Find the location of the cup;
Understand the spatial relationship of "table;
Planning of movement routes;
Control the arm close;
Adjust the grasping force;
Finally bring back the cup.
This means that robots no longer need motion control,The combination of visual perception, language understanding, spatial understanding, world models and action decisions.
Figure 02, AI by Figure, further integrates vision, voice, computing, sensors and dexterous hands. Figure is followed by Helix 02, which allows a nervous system to simultaneously process vision, touch, body perception, and whole-body movement, enabling the robot to continuously complete tasks such as walking, operating, and maintaining balance. This means that robots are undergoing an important change: from "performing actions" to "understanding tasks".

From "can understand" to "can execute"

The next step is more critical. Robots must not only know what to do, but also really get things done. This is also the direction Tesla Optimus is exploring. Tesla is positioning Optimus as a general-purpose, bipedal, autonomous humanoid robot whose goal is to handle dangerous, repetitive and boring tasks, and its technical path involves balance, navigation, perception, motion planning and interaction with the physical world. Agility Robotics Digit is more directly oriented to industrial and logistics scenarios.
Digit uses a humanoid structure suitable for human workspaces and can enter existing factories and warehouses without having to redesign infrastructure on a large scale. Official information shows that Digit has entered the commercial deployment phase.
This represents that the robot industry is moving from "display ability" to "create value".

The real competition is who can put AI into the real world.

In the future, the competition between robots may not only be faster than others.
More importantly:
Who can understand the environment?
Who can understand the mission?
Who can plan independently?
Who can perform stably?
Who can continue to learn?
In other words, the real intelligence of the robot is not to make it behave more and more like a human, but to make it a kindA new type of agent capable of acting autonomously in a real-world environment.This is also the most anticipated place for physical intelligence.

Western Technology: From Robot to Intelligent Space

When the robot from "can run" to "can understand, can execute", the robot itself is also changing. It is no longer just a mechanical device. It is becoming connected.Artificial Intelligence, Motion Control, Multimodal Perception and Real SpaceThe entrance. This is also the western technology and its intelligent robot brandXVIIN Xiwen RobotThe direction of concern.
For future robots, what really matters is not how human they look, but whether they can understand the space they are in, understand the needs of people, and complete real tasks through autonomous movement.
From body intelligence and bionic robots to intelligent space systems, what Western Science and Technology hopes to explore is how robots move further from a single device to a real scene.

After robots beat humans

So, when robots do beat humans one day, we probably shouldn't just ask, "How fast is it?" instead, ask, "Why is it running?" can it run into the factory? Can you complete the task independently? Can we help humans deal with danger and repetitive work? Can it be a new production tool? Can it even really understand the complex world we live in? "Outperforming humans" may just be a moment in the evolution of robotic capabilities. The really important change is that artificial intelligence has its own body for the first time. From that moment on, the AI no longer exists only in the screen.
It starts walking, running, watching, thinking, grabbing and working.
When robots really learn to act, the era of physical intelligence has just begun.
